LOVES: potion making, writing, the dark arts, tea, studying, slytherin house, excelling at things, reading, lily, his small group of friends, discussions about magical heritage, being cold, sandwiches, the colors black and green, animals, loose clothing, people watching
LOATHES: James, Sirius, his father, coffee, messing up, most people at hogwarts, the slug club, following directions, colorful things, being hot, being pranked, sweets, liars, himself
STRENGTHS: being deceiving - Severus is an expert at being well spoken to get what he wants, especially when playing two people against each other
potion making - the class he is most talented in is potions, and Severus seems to have a gift for altering potions to make them even more perfect than would be made by the textbook
giving an unbiased opinion - unafraid of being blunt or rude, Severus is the right person to go to when someone wants a really truthful opinion
the dark arts - Severus is far beyond his years in what he knows about, and can perform, regarding dark magic and subjects most wizards never have a desire to learn about
figuring people out - just by watching their body language and how they speak, Severus can tell a persons true intentions and beliefs, and is never afraid to call them out if they're being untruthful
WEAKNESSES: emotionally vacant - Severus has little remorse about anything mean that he does, with a few clear exceptions
stubborn - when he believes he's right, almost nothing can change his opinion and those who try to convince him otherwise are usually just brushed off as insignificant
nervous - Severus lives in constant fear of not being good enough, stemming from his fathers early negative views against magic, causing him to be a very nervous, worried person
confidence - Severus always feels inadequate, whether it's looks or his personality, and this extremely low confidence causes him to be extremely introverted, but also makes him emphasize the strengths he does have in a somewhat boastful manner
Lily Evans - no matter what Severus is trying to achieve, were he able to help Lily in any way, or have an opportunity to speak to her, he would surely throw away his first task in an instant
PERSONALITY: The very first thing that one must know about Severus' personality is that, well, he doesn't have very much personality. Severus has always been a bit of a loner. He enjoys being alone because it gives him an opportunity to think. He also believes that when he is alone, he doesn't have to be compared to anyone around him, one of the things he hates the most. He feels extremely inadequate compared to the confident, outgoing seventh years he sees everywhere at Hogwarts. As Severus does not get along with very many people, and considers himself very introverted, he finds it hard to relate to most of the boys at his school. However, this does not mean Severus is friendless. Through his interest in the dark arts and his growing involvement in the beliefs of the Slytherin house, Severus has gained a core group of sketchy individuals that he spends the time he's not alone with.
Severus is also a very studious individual. He takes his schoolwork very seriously, and makes sure to complete all of his assignments in a timely manner. With plenty of free time, his assignments are turned in with extensive completion, showing the clear effort he puts into them. His excellence in Potions leaves Severus a very curious individual, always wondering what kinds of combinations could create magical results. Most likely because of his lacking confidence, the ability of potions to stopper things such as luck and fame fascinates him. Also, what started as a schoolboys interest in Defense Against The Dark Arts has turned into a twisted part of Severus' personality. His passion for the Dark Arts and the sinister power they contain consumes him during his free time and has made Severus into the kind of person who considers whether or not the dark events happening outside of Hogwarts are something he might be interested in.
Though Severus may lack the arrogance of a typical Slytherin, he clearly deserves to be in the house. Even within his small group of friends, he is a very manipulative person. He knows how to see past people's lies, delve into their lives, and get what he wants from them. He also has a gift for using people against each other to work in his own favor. With the stubbornness and resilience of a typical Slytherin, Severus works secretly and quietly like a snake to go behind the scenes and get what he wants out of people. This has earned him a bad reputation, especially among other houses, but most Slytherins secretly think Severus has exactly the right idea on how to handle things. These personality traits come together to create an overall unpleasant person, but beneath the surface, Severus does wish he could be a better person. He blames who he is today on his father and James Potter.

OTHER IMPORTANT FIGURES: Lily Evans - though she is gone from his life, Severus still considers her someone of great importance to him and loves her more than anything
BIRTHPLACE: St. Mungo’s
CURRENT RESIDENCE: the Slytherin dorms
HISTORY: Born a half blood wizard to Eileen Prince, a pure blood witch, and Tobias Snape, a Muggle, on January 9, 1960, Severus Snape did not have an easy childhood. With an emotionally unstable and distant father, he immediately began to feel more drawn to his mother’s magical side of the family, even giving himself the nickname of "Half Blood Prince" when he was young. His relationship with his father developed poorly, and the constant fighting between his parents took a toll on him. His father’s contempt for magic caused a rift with his wife and son, and left Severus largely uncared for and ignored by his parents. It also caused anger towards Tobias from Severus, the beginnings of his beliefs that perhaps Muggles weren’t all that great. Without a sufficient relationship with them, he began to develop an unpleasant personality from childhood.
With a poor home life, Severus wished perhaps he could escape his home and find solace somewhere in his neighborhood. Most likely because his father was not entirely comfortable with magic, Severus and his parents chose to live in a Muggle town called Spinner’s End. However, this area was extremely poor, with little to distract him from the troubles at home. One distraction did appear in the form of a Muggle girl from the town next to his, a girl named Lily Evans. As a child, Severus already expressed powerful talents for magic, and upon observing Lily at length he easily deduced that she had magical abilities.
Severus’ social skills at the time were severely lacking. As an awkward child with much trouble making a good first impression, it took everything he had to try and develop a friendly relationship with Lily. As a kind young witch, Lily understood his awkwardness and the two bonded quickly and developed a very close friendship through their childhood years. On the other hand, Lily’s sister Petunia did not and the two automatically developed a hateful relationship, as he did not enjoy her mean comments on his dirty clothes and his home. These interactions with Petunia also made Severus see Muggles in a negative light. Though Severus clearly had much interest in Lily from the very beginning, his feelings were not returned by Ms. Evans, who saw Severus only as her dearest friend.
Upon receiving his letter of acceptance from Hogwarts, and learning Lily would be joining him, Severus was overjoyed. He believed that by getting away from his bad home life he could be happy and perhaps try to deepen his close friendship with Lily. He and Lily had long discussions about Hogwarts and its houses and though Severus had a great desire to be in Slytherin, where he believed he could develop his budding interest in the Dark Arts, he also greatly feared losing Lily as a friend were she to be in another house.
In September of 1971, he and Lily boarded the Hogwarts Express to head to school. On this day, Severus met the two boys who would turn into his greatest enemies for all of his school years at Hogwarts. Sitting in a compartment with Lily, eagerly discussing the magic awaiting him, Severus was rudely interrupted by two boys. James Potter and Sirius Black. After giving him the unfavorable nickname ‘Snivellus’, making comments to Lily, and criticizing Severus’ wish to be in Slytherin, James and Sirius were left alone in the compartment by an annoyed Lily, Severus trailing behind her. At this moment, Severus knew that he hated those two boys, but never could have guessed how extreme their rivalry would become during their years at Hogwarts.
Upon arriving at Hogwarts, Severus got his wish and was sorted into Slytherin. To his dismay, however, Lily was sorted into Gryffindor with James and Sirius. Despite the distance forced by separate houses, Severus and Lily maintained their close friendship. As he began classes, it became increasingly evident that Severus had a unique and amazing gift for Potions, and also excelled in the Dark Arts. In his first year, he knew more hexes and curses than a majority of the seventh year students. The head of his house, Horace Slughorn, initiated Snape into the Slug Club, and though he was not favorited by the professor, the club was another place to see Lily.
Despite their attempts to stay friends, distance began to grow between Severus and Lily as he became more immersed in his house. Lily, worried about her closest friend, begged Severus to stay away from the shady crowd he had become friends with, including Avery, Mulciber, Rosier, and Wilkes. It was clear that being in Slytherin had a negative impact upon Severus, pulling him deeper into the Dark Arts and warping his views further on blood status and Muggles. Despite his new beliefs, Severus was still hopelessly in love with Lily.
His unrequited love for Lily, along with obvious conflicts between Gryffindor and Slytherin, caused an extreme amount of tension between Severus and James Potter. Severus, who was introverted and studious, naturally hated the cocky, athletic person that James was. He and his friends constantly messed with Severus, and one particular day would end up being the worst memory of Severus’ life.
In an act of teasing that went a little too far into cruel territory, James had hung Severus by his feet in the air using the spell ‘Levicorpus’. While they yelled things at him and laughed, this position revealed Severus’ underwear and embarrassed him terribly in front of many students. Upon seeing this prank, Lily became angry with James and demanded he let Severus down, which he did almost immediately. Angry and attempting to salvage some of his dignity after finally being saved by Lily of all people, Severus ended up lashing out. It was at that moment that he accidently called Lily a ‘Mudblood’.
Immediately regretting it, Severus tried for weeks to get Lily’s forgiveness. Countless apologies, begging, and even tears could not get Lily to forgive the betrayal that word had caused. From that moment on, Severus detested the word ‘Mudblood’, as it cost him his closest friend and the love of his life. Despite her pushing him out of his life, Severus has never stopped watching Lily from afar, looking out for her safety, or loving her. With the one thing that was good and wholesome about his life gone, Severus sank further into his shady Slytherin crowd and his passion for the Dark Arts.
Entering into his seventh year, Severus has become the most unpleasant he has ever been, with a continued introverted, studious, and sour demeanor. He also remains dangerously interested in the dark areas of magic and the wizarding world, as well as heartbroken and unhappy. His hatred for James Potter and his friends is currently at an all time high as James begins to finally woo Lily successfully. Despite all this, Severus remains somewhat hopeful for his seventh year at Hogwarts. Who knows? Maybe this could be his year.

NAME/ALIAS: Paige!
AGE: seventeen
EXPERIENCE: I’ve been roleplaying since I was twelve, on Proboards and Invision Free since I was fourteen
OTHER CHARACTERS: none
ANYTHING ELSE?: I LOVE SEVERUS
RP SAMPLE: “Absolutely ridiculous. Astounding, really. Bloody Professer can’t even control his own bloody magic.”
Severus muttered darkly to himself as he tramped down the hall to the hospital wing, his black sneakers thudding against the stone floor. How was it possible for a professor, someone who was held up quite high socially as a brilliant mind, to cut open his student's hand while attempting to organize his cluttered classroom?
Professer Slughorn had simply used a spell to try and move some of the junk that had taken up space on his desk top, obscuring it almost completely from view, when something went horribly wrong and sent everything zooming around the room. With his luck, one of those objects flying around had been a sharp pointed letter opener. Unsurprisingly, this new weapon went flying at Severus. Though he had at least prevented the device from slicing open his face, it did manage to mangle his hand. The blood flowing from his palm cause anger to bubble up behind Severus’ stony exterior, but he was mostly angry he had to miss a potions lesson. Being accident-prone was certainly not an endearing characteristic in Slughorn, who was supposed to be his role model.
Quietly, so as to be respectful to whoever may be in the hospital wing, he opened the door and stepped inside. He paused in his step, racked by the stabbing pain in his hand. Wincing while still applying pressure to his bleeding hand with a cloth, he hurriedly continued into the ward. He didn't feel anxious about coming to get aid, as he was a frequent visitor due to the variety of pranks played upon him. Blinking, he looked away from his hand to scan the room for the school nurse, walking past a few of the empty beds until he came across the woman in her plain nurses uniform standing behind one of the curtains that separated the cots.
"Excuse me?" he addressed her somewhat rudely for her back was to him and she wasn't paying the kind of attention a nurse should to a bleeding student. After scanning the hospital ward with his sharp, empty eyes and realizing it was empty, he no longer felt any reason to stay quiet. He continued, still cradling his hand. "I'd really like to stop bleeding."
